A chamber orchestra for children roughly 8 to 13 who already have basic orchestral skills, and who are working toward the Junior Symphonic Ensemble.

What Sinfonia is.

The Sinfonia is a chamber orchestra for young students at Children’s Orchestra Society who have already acquired basic orchestral playing skills and experience, and who wish to grow musically in preparation for the Junior Symphonic Ensemble (JSE). While repertoire is still taken from arrangements for young players, the selections are always challenging.
Sinfonia is larger than Kinder Orchestra, and members’ ages generally range from 8 to 13. This ensemble is featured twice a year in the annual Winter and Spring Concerts.

Where Sinfonia leads.

Sinfonia prepares players for the Junior Symphonic Ensemble, the full orchestra with strings, winds, and percussion.
Nobody is held at one rung for a set number of years, and nobody is pushed before they want to go. Each semester your child can audition for the next ensemble up, whenever they feel ready to handle its requirements. Those requirements are published, so you and your child can read them together and decide when the time is right.

MOVE-UP AUDITION DATES NEEDED
Families now know they can audition up each semester, but not when. COS needs to publish the move-up audition window for each semester, and say whether a student who does not pass simply tries again the following term. Without those two answers a parent cannot plan, and the reassurance above stays abstract.
