Programs

Five orchestras organized by ability, five specialist ensembles, and the study programs that run alongside them. A child can be a beginner in one room and advanced in another on the same Saturday, and nothing they start on limits where they finish.

Orchestras

The youngest beginners. First notes, first friends.

Playing together begins.

Sinfonia Orchestra

Real repertoire, real growth.

Junior Symphonic Ensemble

Advancing musicianship.

Young Symphonic Ensemble

Our most advanced orchestra. Performs annually at Alice Tully Hall, Lincoln Center.

Ensembles

Small ensembles, real individual responsibility. Open to pianists and guitarists as well as orchestral players.

Elite String Ensemble

For advanced string players ready for more.

Wind Symphonic Ensemble

Winds and brass, with a named home in the program.

Percussion Ensemble

Percussion as its own discipline, not an afterthought.

Where children start when they cannot yet read music. Rhythm comes first. Its first thirty minutes run inside Kinder Orchestra.

Study

Theory, ear training and sight-reading, at multiple levels.

Instrumental Technique Advancement Program: focused technique work.

A four-year curriculum preparing exceptional students for conservatory-level study.

Discovery Competition

Open to every COS instrumentalist with a year here, on any instrument they study. The winner performs as soloist with the YSE.

Private Lessons

One to one technique work, arranged with your teacher alongside the ensembles.
