About the program

The gateway to becoming a complete musician.

We value our chamber music program as the gateway to becoming a complete musician. This course is open to instrumentalists who desire to play in a small group setting to strengthen their ensemble playing. Coached and mentored by our talented faculty, the groups range from trios to octets, formed according to levels of proficiency as determined by entrance auditions and faculty recommendations. Chamber music offers a unique opportunity for students to gain greater confidence as a solo performer while at the same time experiencing the joy of collaborative music-making.

Chamber Music groups meet on Saturdays according to the coach and individual members’ availability.

There’s a language being spoken on stage. Not verbally, obviously, but with eye contact, with breath, with small gestures, with cues. All of that is learned in chamber music first, in a more intimate setting. And when you take it to a bigger scale, everything’s a little more natural.

Chamber groups run until mid-April, earlier in the season than the orchestras. Placement is by proficiency, set at entrance auditions and by faculty recommendation, so the group your child joins is chosen for them.

Chamber placement is decided by faculty at the audition, so you don’t need to pick a group. Every child auditions, and no child is turned away.
